Proctoring

Exam invigilation, check-in, live console and integrity review.

Overview

Proctoring adds exam invigilation to the LMS: define integrity policies, enforce them at check-in and during the exam, watch a live console of active sessions, and review flagged integrity events afterward against a frozen policy snapshot.

Key features

Policies

Define and enforce exam integrity policies at check-in.

Live console

Monitor active exam sessions in real time.

Integrity review

Review flagged events against a frozen policy snapshot.

How to use it

1. Define integrity policies
Create a proctoring policy for an exam — allowed resources, camera and lockdown rules — that spells out exactly what is and isn’t permitted.
2. Enforce at check-in
Students check in before the exam; the policy is enforced at check-in and throughout the session, and the exact policy applied is frozen as a snapshot on that session.
3. Watch the live console
Monitor active exam sessions in real time from the live console as students work.
4. Review integrity events
After the exam, review flagged events against the frozen policy snapshot and record an integrity decision for each session.

Roles & permissions

Proctoring is used by exam administrators and invigilators; it plugs into the LMS via the ExamProctorGate (a soft dependency), so it enforces policies on LMS exams. Policies and their snapshots are auditable and the review step is permission-controlled.

Questions about this module

What happens if a policy changes after an exam?
Nothing changes for past sessions — each keeps the frozen policy_snapshot it was run under.
Does Proctoring require the LMS?
It integrates with LMS exams through the ExamProctorGate and enforces policies on those exams.
Can I review flagged sessions later?
Yes — the integrity review lists flagged events for a decision any time after the exam.
